We're Moving!

Smart Products, Inc. is excited to announce that we are moving in 2017 to beautiful western North Carolina. Construction is well underway on a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Mills River, NC, located just south of Asheville. This facility will allow the company to continue to grow and remain competitive in the markets we serve.

“We anticipate construction to be completed by the end of this year and we will be in contact with customers frequently to make sure that all orders are completed and delivered on time. We anticipate no delays,” says Cathy Jernigan, VP of Operations. She adds, “We are most excited about our new Level 10,000 clean room at the new site, which will give us the ability to take clean room production from injection molding through final assembly in a clean environment.”

Smart Products, Inc. uses injection molding technology and the highest quality assembly processes to produce check valves and pumps that are used in a variety of industry sectors including automotive, food and beverage, and medical.  “Our company is committed to quality. Henderson County and the Town of Mills River have showcased the resources we need to continue producing our product and stay competitive in the industry. All of us anticipate a bright future in North Carolina and are excited about celebrating our 32nd anniversary in 2017 in our new building right here in Henderson County,” stated company CEO Mark Jernigan.

Newly created positions will include engineering, assembly, shipping, quality and administrative. Smart Products, Inc. received a Customized Training Grant through the North Carolina Community College System and Blue Ridge Community College will administer the training. Hiring for initial positions will commence this fall.

Key Dates:

  • New Facility Completion- target date mid-December
  • Initial Production Ramp up- mid-January
  • Full Production in New Facility- March 31

Understanding Pressure Capabilities and Limitations in Our Check Valves

We're often asked, "how high can your valves go?" Or, "how low can your valves go?"

To get a better idea about pressure capabilities and limitations in our valves, it's important to know which pressure stage might be most critical to your application's performance. During check valve operation, each valve goes through four different stages of pressure:

  • Opening pressure
  • Flow (aka steady-state or regulated) pressure
  • Check (aka back) pressure
  • Resealing pressure

The opening pressure for our valves ranges from 0.09 to 20 PSI. Then, the maximum pressure in the flow direction (inlet) and for the check direction (outlet) can go up to 100+ PSI. Finally, the reseal pressure will always be lower than the selected opening PSI.

Also note, we can adjust a valve's pressure capabilities by looking at the o-ring's durometer (hardness of rubber). For example, if you're looking for higher back pressure performance in our valves, we may recommend o-rings at a higher durometer. For approximate valve burst pressures per a specific check valve Model #, contact a Product & Application Specialist at 1-800-338-0404. Additionally, our engineers consistently test our valves and their components, so if your application requires an opening or flow/check pressure not mentioned here, be sure to inquire with us.

As a custom valve manufacturer, we recommend that you sample the valve that you are interested in and test it in your application. A Product & Application Specialist can help you choose components (body material, o-ring, spring pressure, and more) ideal for your design criteria. The more we know about your low pressure, low flow needs, the better equipped we will be in selecting the right components to create a precise and accurate valve exclusively for your application. Contact us at 1-800-338-0404 or sales@smartproducts.com.
