Model #101 High Durometer Cone Testing

Our engineers test the Model #101 cone design at 60 and 70 durometer sizes

Due to the continued success of the Model #101's new cone seal, our engineering team has recently concluded testing on this design's ability to withstand higher durometers (hardness of rubber).

Durometer Tests with the Model #101 Cone Seal
To further achieve maximum performance capabilities of the Model #101, our engineering team tested variations of this valve. All test valves had a Polycarbonate plastic body and an opening spring pressure of 14 PSI. Cones were tested in Silicone, Buna-N, and EPDM at 60 and 70 durometer sizes. All standard leak tests and high resolution leak tests produced excellent performance results with no failures found. With this successful round of testing, Smart Products will offer these higher durometers by the end of Q2 or early Q3.

About Durometer

Durometer is one of many ways to customize the cones or o-rings within our valves. When ordering, a Product & Application Specialist can help you select the appropriate durometer size for your specific design criteria. The durometer size of any seal is an important consideration based on your system's opening and operating pressure requirements. In general, the higher the maximum pressure, the higher durometer size you will want to ensure optimal performance. In addition, a higher durometer size may be recommended if your application is exposed to certain harsh chemicals, gasses, or other environments.

About Model #101
Designed to be easily inserted into 1/8” Inner Diameter (ID) tubing, Model #101 can withstand opening pressures ranging from 0.46 to 20 PSI. This miniature valve is available in Polypropylene, Nylon, Acetal, PVDF, Polycarbonate, and Ultem® plastic body materials. It is a great option for flow control in dialysis machines, medical test equipment, and ventricular assist devices.  Beyond this market, Model #101 can be used in any industry with applications ranging from heating systems for oil rigs, flight simulation equipment, and ozone generators.
